Gateway to the North

This original stone arched once graced the old Ferguson Highway (the former name of Hwy 11) entrance into North Bay. It is now the entrance to the parking lot for Lee Park.

The arch was erected by the North Bay Travellers in 1928 (group was later became the North Bay Club of the Associated Canadian Travellers [ACT]). The arch image became part of the city's logo.

The flags in the photo are (l to r):

1) Franco-Ontarian Flag
2) The National Flag of Canada - The Maple Leaf
3) Union Flag (or known more commonly as the Union Jack)
4) Ontario Provinical Flag

On the reverse side of the arch (or original entrance) it lists the mileage (in miles not km) to various towns and cities north of North Bay.

Nice shot, like the color of the sky/clouds in the center of the arch. Good to see that the arch wasn't torn down. Was it relocated to the park or was the road moved?

The arch was moved to its present location sometime in the 1960s (but it is not too far from it's original location).

Je ne savais pas qu'il existait un "Franco-Ontarian" drapeau.

I did not know that there was a “Franco-Ontarian” flag.

Handsome arch -- I'm sure it instills a lot of pride.

Your skies look like ours over here in Norwich. But your photo conjures up images of space, which we kind of lack in the city.
