Airplane Ride (6) - Osprey Golf Course

This is the front nine of Osprey Golf Course. I have marked part of the Kate Pace Way (paved bike/walking trail) that winds it way through the forest. Here's a link to a photo I shot while riding my bike while on the trail in this area.

You can search through my blog for other photos taken along the Kate Pace Way.

Cranberry Trail (5) - View of Lake Nipissing

Click on the photo for a larger image.

After walking along the 2.7km long Cranberry Trail, this is part of the view you are greeted with. The sounds of the waves crashing and the trees whispering as the wind whips through is very haunting as you walk along the trail and is just amazing once you step out onto the shore.

And yes, that is a small cabin on that island in the background.

A view of the raised viewing platform. During the summer & spring, you will be able to view numerous birds (including trumpeter swams, ospreys and bald eagles). This photo was taken while taking a break from hand picking cranberries in the bog.

Cranberry Trail (1) - Cranberry Marsh

Last weekend the town of Callander which is just south of North Bay officially unveiled the latest trail to be added to Discovery Routes. It's a wonderful 2.7 km trail that is just west of where the Kate Pace Way trail ends. This trail takes you out to the shores of Lake Nipissing and past a cranberry bog! Cranberries are a great tasting fruit! Along the trail there are numerous interpretative signs telling visitors about the animals in the area, the trees & floral species native to the area as well as some local history. It's a walking/biking trail (but no roller blades as it is a mixture of sand & crushed rock trail).

Ship Shaped Playground in Callander

Less than 3 miles south of North Bay is the town of Callander. It's a pretty little town of about 3,200 people situated on the shores of Lake Nipissing. They have a beautiful playground right in the middle of town and on the shores of the lake. There is a play set in the shape of a ship for all the kids to use...it even has a ramp so that those children who are unable to climb can get up on parts of the ship.
