Education Centre Pond covered in Snow

This is the view of the pond at the back of the Education Centre (part of Nipissing University & Canadore College). This is what you can see from the cafeteria windows. It was a bit cold & windy when I took this photo on Monday afternoon.

Come February 2008, this area will be swarming with hockey players as Canadore College hosts the Canadian Pond Hockey Faceoff on February 15, 16, & 17.

Snow Commute - Overpass

Some of you have asked if we get a lot of snow. That depends on your definition of a lot. I don't think we get enough snow but others think we get too much.

This photo was taken last Friday (Nov 30) of the cars coming from downtown onto Lakeshore Drive via the Overpass (called that since it goes above the train tracks of both the Ontario Northland and Ottawa Valley Railways). The snowstorm is just starting to roll into town.

To give you an idea as to the amount of snow that has fallen (& drifted), since Sunday afternoon, I have shovelled out the driveway 5 times! It's supposed to let up a bit by tomorrow, which means that I'll actually have a chance to do a proper job of cleaning the driveway and piling the snow away from the house.

Here it's important to push the snow as far away from the driveway and house on these first snow falls since it will continue to snow until March. It is no picnic trying to clean your driveway when you have created 6 foot banks of snow on either side.

Flying low over the trees as we are returning to the North Bay Airport. This photo was taken in mid-September as the fall colours are starting. At the very top of the photo one can see a bit of Lake Nipissing.

Almost back at the North Bay Airport. Looking east from the plane over Trout Lake. Although ard to see, the houses along the shore are in the Birchaven neighbourhood of North Bay. Click on this link to see a view of the beach area in the neighbourhood.

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last couple of days, but I wasn't in town and had not uploaded any photos previously. As for the current weather, well it's around -9C and we have a bit of snow on the ground (I'll post some photos of the snow after I finish the airplane ride).
